trent lowe and tennis

The subject items are not related to each other, except that most of my attention (due to lack of live coverage of the Vuelta) has been focused on the US Open. Sadly most of my favorite players seem content (so to speak) on losing. Nadal lost (though I’ve got to confess I wasn’t really sad about this) to James Blake. Roddick went out in horrific fashion in the first round of all places. Although I do enjoy the Andy’s Mojo commercials.

Enough about Tennis. The real reason for this post is mostly related to cycling. One of ‘my’ little Australian boys, Trent Lowe has been offered a contract. Currently, he’s riding in the States for both Jittery Joes and Subaru-Gary Fisher. Well, last week I found out that this contract he was offered was by Discovery. I know I’m far from their biggest fan, but now I have two boys (remember Jurgen van Goolen?) riding for them. It’s hard not to be happy. I mean, if Discovery things you’re worth it, then you must be (see: Tom Boonen, Dave Zabriskie, and the list goes on and on). So, in the end, I am totally pleased about this.

CN has an excellent interview with Trent. He used to (and still does) ride MTB, so this’ll be something of an adventure for him, although he did quite well (best young rider) at the Tour de Georgia.

I am really excited about this. Speaking of transfers, though. I still have no idea where Christian is going. It seems more and more likely that he hasn’t gotten an offer. I won’t mention how unhappy that makes me. Perhaps I’m a little too, I don’t know, caring of a fan, but I really want him to keep racing.

I guess it’s just more waiting.

Katrina

As I am nothing but a poor grad student and therefore not much I can do money-wise, to help the victims of Katrina, I shall, instead, share a link. All of the proceeds for the one click (well, two. One to get to the site and one to donate) at the hunger site will go to the victims.

I donated money to the Red Cross on 9/11 and my parents and I donated to tsunami relief. This is the least (and perhaps when I get my refund on my loans, I will donate a bit more) I can do. The least all of you can to.
